the affairs begin there, my wife pointed out as we pass a park where ballroom dancing was taking place. she was mentioning the middle-age couples, seemingly innocently dancing away in the warm summer night in Shanghai. Outwardly, they seem like married couples, dancing together but I was told many of them arrive single, and pair up in an innocent form of exercise where for the first time for many, they enjoy the touch of another person. then the real dance commences.
many a times i wonder if we were meant to be with one for all our lives. if we are like the gibbons or sea horses, where we have one mate our entire life, or if we are closer to the ape or lion, mating with who we come into play with. these rules of nature we contend with, struggling to follow what we know we should or should not do. for some lucky ones the mate we have found are the right ones, for life we get to love. but for many others…
i also wonder if there is a difference in an affair of the mind and or the body. if you flirt with someone with your eyes, with a joke, is it as innocent as simply brushing against their arms? where are the lines? deleting messages, having thoughts, dancing, dinners, dates, gifts, it all leads to somewhere. a place where love and destruction come together. the affair, of the mind, of the heart, of the soul.
