they come out of nowhere. appearing inside our heads one after the other in a random display of size and importance. while some linger and others fade, the amount they affect our everyday mood and mindframe is beyond comprehension. our confidence and security are framed by words and images that appear out of nowhere, our sense of who we are and what others might be are painted by our imagination of what we are seeing. what we believe or conceive come in these waves of thoughts, appearing out of nowhere and creating an ongoing dialogue only we can hear.
like an imaginary person telling us what to do, thoughts can be sinister or saintly. they have no consequences alone and depending on whether or not you want to act on them they can cause you little physical harm. they are as real as the world before us yet ephemeral in their nature and impossible to curate. they cause such agony, yet create excitement when framed the right way. like all things, we can only control about half, the rest take place like our breath with little to no effort.
at times the mind can rest. in certain exercises, meditation or distracted by entertainment, the thoughts will cease. what is left is the effort put forward on the activity at hand. a brief reprieve from the noise, from the suggestions or ideas, beliefs of perspectives. a quiet peace settles in, a strange sense that something is amiss. as children we tend to act closer to our thoughts, we speak what is on our mind and do not have a dialogue from what we think to how we act. for many, this is impossible, our frame of thinking varies too far, we are taught to hold our tongue and to not act on thoughts alone. sound advice for some, devastating for others. its best to follow most thoughts, to go with the gut, unless it is the sinister one speaking, its best to ignore those.
