at the end, my friend likes to joke, the only thing we are all promised is an estate sale. it is about the amount of stuff we leave on this earth to the ones who are caring for us, or to our children. these objects, of which we might find precious, others might not see it that way. to choose five of your favorite objects, who would want them and who might you gift them too? it is good to shed yourself of things and objects. first of all, it allows you to collect more. secondly it allows you to experience the feeling of freedom. at times, if you allow it, objects end up owning you, not the other way around.
another person i know had a dream of purchasing a luxury automobile. he worked hard, saved and bought himself a masserati coup. i remember him showing me the car in his garage, it was covered in dust due to the dead battery and the fact that the new one had to be shipped from italy to china. after a bit of enquiring, he opened up to me that when he did take the car driving the first few days of its arrival, he became very nervous of driving it with bikes and scooters all around, and even more nervous parking it with the thought of someone banging up the side of the car in the parking lot. after a while, he stopped driving it and then the battery died. his dream, now a dilemma. asked if he was happier before he bought the car, he paused briefly and then deflected the answer. no need to push on.
many can achieve their dreams. keep them simple, within reach and you will. upon catching it, notice the feeling and wait for it to dissipate. like the high of your first kiss or drink, it fades and you yearn for more. you augment your dream, you go for the chase again. you catch the bird and put it into a cage. your objects in boxes hidden away in your closet. peace of mind as you look backwards and count your wishes, up until you cannot remember them. a different time, a different dream.
