there are people that believe if you say something to yourself, like i’ll lose the race or will sell this house, that there is a larger chance of it coming true. that simply by stating the words, fate moves a bit more onto your side. i remember once telling my brother that the lottery ticket he bought would not win and that it was a game for people who are bad at math, and in anger he ripped the ticket up in front of me and blamed me for a loss that had not happen. forever i thought that this idea was absurd, but am now starting to believe that the thought drives the destiny. that even though the odds might stay the same, the observation of something happening can be just as joyous as the outcome.
imagine you are on a date. in your mind, if the date is going well, it probably is. the way you feel about somebody usually mirrors the way that person feels about you. If you feel good about an interview, a sales pitch, an argument, well it is going your way. we are the center of our worlds, gods almost, and what we believe is almost real. George Orwell once said, “he who controls the present, controls the past”. The ideas, truths, logic in it all can almost always be viewed as perspective. It is hard in these times to see anything other then people fighting about their side of the coin.
the thought comes from within. the noise, news, our perspective and our past come up with part of the narrative. out of nowhere, our thoughts and worries appear. in time they will go, replaced with something else. what we do with them is up to us. we can repeat them, hold onto them, or ignore them. i think it is hard to escape their impact though. if it comes into your head, into the consciousness, it is there. pretending it is not is like giving up your ability to reason.
