when the mind quiets. in the moments when you can stop and focus on things. to see the order. when smart people talk and you listen. when you see the pillars that were built for society, such as the churches in each town, and remember the representation that they make as a reminder of who we are and how we act. how they brought us to what is today, tamed society through struggles or did they hold us back? it is too hard to tell as it is impossible to go backwards in time and measure a reaction. i think that for many who did not have a good base, a good family, a good foundation then the church made a good place to learn some of the basics.
of course they did some harm, but it is much easier to see the negative side then the positive, it is much easier to find fault then to see the good. unless you are looking to convince yourself of a choice you want to make, then it is simple to find the good. overall, helping people find a moral base, getting neighbors together to help one another, believing in a higher good other then the self allows us to move on from our own perception and move further away from impulses that come about so easily. to meet weekly, to sing, to break away from the devices, to stop looking for some short fix and to put in time and energy for a higher purpose.
take a deity and give him a good name, a good story and throw at him all the thrills and temptations that one is given in a given life. show how he takes the harder road, the higher road and then pass those stories on to the young in the name of stories, songs and weekly gatherings. let all those in our land hear the tales so that we do not pursue the wicked. gluttony, vanity, lying, narcissistic behavior should be avoided and if you pursue it in blindness lust be prepared for the consequences. they stood the time since man was around for some reason, shouldn’t these walls be a bit harder to knock down then some demand?
