it caught me today. the constraints of time. one of those things in life that is constantly moving always racing in one form or the other. we yearn for tomorrow or the days bygone, and a few hours ago, i simply wished i had moved a bit faster in the start of it all. by two minutes, the gates closed and i was unable to board a flight. the hotel, the itinerary, the planning all went haywire. on the way there, the rush to catch the minutes had us zipping in and out of traffic, causing anxiety and a bit of risk as my driver cursed the slower pedestrians, making there own way around the city. in their own time, with their own clocks ticking.
time is something we invented. like inches, currencies and weights. its a guide measured in beats and agreed upon by most people in the world that allows us to convene at certain places all at once. for the most part, it is a useful tool that allows us to circumvent the world and our days in a predictable flow and path. its what we have to give others, its our currency when we can trade with, its our guideline in how we conduct business, it tells us when to eat, rise and fall. it should guide us, be our tool and we should learn how to bend it by copying and pasting and finding shortcuts. with modern medicine we are able to steal time. we juggle it when we are doing two things at once, typing a message while driving a car, moonlighting at work, we attempt the impossible with time. with facelifts and restorations, we do our best to reverse its ware and tare on our bodies and properties.
a moment can be so many things. terrifying, exciting, dull, but for sure it will go away and time will bring other things. a next flight, another emotion, another opportunity to get ahead or fall behind. a chance for redemption, for failure, a chance to be late or early. choose how you spend it, be mindful of the fact that it is fleeting and cannot be taken back. but know it is not real. its like all those other things we have to clog our senses, to keep us busy. another layer that needs peeling back, another brick in that impenetrable wall that has surrounded us.
