a friend sent me a great article on all the crazy things that went down in Philadelphia after they won the super bowl. included is eating horse shit and burning parts of their city. the article is here.

its funny how celebrations are celebrated. how close the edge is to tragedy. it is fine line and I think the circle or line between happiness and sadness is a fine line. carol burnett famously said:
comedy is a tragedy—plus time.

when i am happy, celebrating, i find myself wanting to celebrate with drinking, the bigger the celebration the more the drinking. after this, the drinking will get me drunk. then the suffering begins. what was a celebration leaves me the next day with a hangover. a circle is formed, the feeling the next day will take away from anything i had to celebrate in the first part, then the work will start to enjoy the benefits of the celebration.

in circles we go. like the tragic things that happened in philly, albeit funny, it is hard to say what the actual outcome of that celebration did to the people and the community that were celebrating. we see this when success has people buying things they did not want, or acting in ways that destroys the self that was at the moment before so proud and happy.

why this pursuit of destruction after such a high? is this simply balance? it is hard to figure out.

Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult – once we truly understand and accept it – then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.
