somewhere out there, the answer awaits.

is there a proportion of happiness to sadness that must be found? if things are going well, is it simply a matter of time before the music stops…before the vacation ends or the checks stop arriving…in society there has been revolutions upon revolutions, wars and fractions that usually are found in time of normal and easy going times. there was no a shortage of food, a scarcity of hope, but the tribes waged wars none the less. family dynasties break apart with enough wealth to solve any issues at hand, industries collapse, companies go bankrupt, in the it all goes to shit.

knowing these facts, is it prudent to go full on for happiness today? spend what is in our pocket, have one more drink, peal the screen protector off your phone and live. as i type this, money begins to  fall out of my pocket. it has been happening with more and more frequency, perhaps it is the loose pants or the coins i carry around, the way i sit? but in some societies this is a symbol of losing money. i have been less careful then before on how and what i spend money on. as i make more, get older and feel that an abundance of anything is not a way to live. storing money, like food, will lead to having it go stale, as we move in society, the numbers in the bank and the notes of paper become worth less and less. we can’t take any of it with me the saying goes, and leaving it to our children will offer the no favours in the future. they need to go out and make it themselves, to understand that the energy must come with some effort, or it will be meaningless.

sadness is paying for the happiness. the money, the hangovers, the mistakes, the waste, this is the proportion of the good with the bad. a moment of happiness, brings about a moment of sadness as you come down to the high. in the middle, in the ordinary, we cannot smile all the time. our face muscles would get tired and the joke would seize to be funny. the proportion of happiness to sadness, like light to dark and good with bad is proportional. where we tend to spend these moments, on books, in bars, over doughnuts, with a friend or with a drug, this is for one to decide. the good will come with the bad, god is fair.
