television today is full of content. the ‘unbundling’ of cable and the onset of on-demand has flooded most viewers with a myriad of choices that could keep one watching for days, months and perhaps years before you would have to re-watch anything else. some very good shows to fit almost every taste. reality shows, dramas, sci-fi, the list goes on.
according to youtube, 300 hours of new content is uploaded every minute.
the daily papers still hold on and everything is vying for your attention.
and all i am trying to do is find out what i am supposed to be doing with all of this in the context of life. i want to ignore it, but some of it is exceptional programming.
one friend told me that the extent of it reminds him of the end of the greek empire days, when there was a supreme amount of distractions and orgies, just to keep the public unaware that the house was falling down around them.

bought a camera today, as some odd things have been happening around my condominium. when i got home on friday, someone had managed to get into our garage and take my surfboards that were placed where i park. our back gate to our bedroom was found open the next day (granted faulty lock that i have since enforced) and woke up this morning to find a pair of panties and a sock placed on our front doorstep. odd instances that might be connected? there has to be a show about this on one of those channels.

  • It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.-  ——- From Tales of Two Cities.
