at the table next to me, the lady dumped the packets of sugars and creamers into her handbag. She scanned the room, she did not want anyone to see her actions. Inside she knew it was wrong, yet it did not matter to her. It does not matter to us all. All of us know the difference of right and wrong, we feel it. Yet day by day we cheat, we break the same rules we pretend we are following, the same rules we pontificate. inside we know better.

the banter between what is right and wrong goes on even when we are in the act of doing one or the other. we all want to help, but the act of self preservation runs deep, each moment spent in the care of others is one away from our own, every dollar put into the basket is one less in our wallet, yet we all despise being selfish. torn between these two a balance is formed that makes us all generally get along.

societies are quite similar in the actions of their people. we follow an unspoken code deep in us, one that reminds us which way to go, what we should say, how we should act. but we stop when the preying eyes eyes are no longer us, we act our animalistic ways and try to get ahead in any means possible. we shield our behavior in the shadows, we load our pockets when we can and scurry into the daylight to use it a non reprehensible way.
